An Exercise in Game Design
As an assignment for my Game Design Concepts class I had to translate a current video game into a board game. I decided on Resident Evil 5 since it was the most recent game I played through and could envision it as a board game. I went with a literal translation trying to stay as faithful to the game as a I could. What resulted was with similarities to Descent, which was purely unintentional.
I present my first draft. I have not had a chance to playtest it. There are going to be balance issues with the included scenario. There are a couple of mechanics I'm still wanting to tweak and fine tune. Nevertheless this is what I turned in as my assignment. Not bad for only four days of design work.
Since this game is heavily based on an existing IP owned by Capcom it is quite likely this game will either be re-themed but maintaining some of the mechanics. Either that or the entire thing will go away.
Note regarding the included scenario
I modeled the scenario after the free demo provided by Capcom. You can find it in the Playstation Store if you are lucky enough to have a PS3 but never actually bought or rented the game.
