indefinite adjective: not clearly defined or determined; not precise or exact.
hiatus noun: a break or interruption in the continuity of a work, series, action, etc.
I'm afraid Promethean Logophile is going on an indefinite hiatus. It may be back some day in the future, or it may remain an archive of nearly two years. Time will tell.
I don't want this to become a habit, but I hereby proclaim an extension on last week's word, for the simple fact that not even I had time to write, and this week is Thanksgiving week, where I am not sure how much time any of us will have for writing anyway.
Enjoy!
Authors are gladly welcomed to the site! The goal of this site is to learn interesting new words and have fun while doing it (not to mention improving writing skills). In order for things to run smoothly around here I have a few rules I would like to point out.
- All words for the week will be supplied for you. Do not come up with your own. You may, however, make suggestions or requests for words.
As you will notice, I have supplied 4 feeds for the entries on this site, and a feed for the comments. Individual entry feeds are available, as well as feeds for the categories. If you are confused about which feed to choose allow me to point out a few things.
- The Atom and RSS 2.0 and RDF feeds each have the title of the post (with the number of words in the post in the title), the link to the post's permanent location, the author of the post, the date of the post, and the full text of the post.
- The RSS 2.0 and RDF feeds also include the category of the post.
- The Atom feed does not have the category.
- The RSS 0.92 only has the title (with word count) and an excerpt of the post.
The bottom line: RSS 2.0 and RDF are the most complete feed (useful for offline reading) and the RSS 0.92 feed is the smallest feed (useful for notification).
Enjoy!
Promethean Logophile is a community project with a twofold aim. Our first aim is to increase our vocabularies by exploring unusual, rare, and the occasional misused word. Our second aim is to encourage our authors to write, hoping and believing that frequent writing will improve our skills. To accomplish these aims a new word, along with its definition, is posted to the site (usually on Sunday) and authors then have one week to write a story using that week's word with no less than 300 and no more than 1,000 words. The stories are not edited, moderated, scored, or rated; we do check to make sure the stories adhere to a loose PG rating. Authors need not worry about impressing an audience.
